Toddler attacked by coyote in Whitby, Durham police say, amid spike in GTA encounters
Last month in Markham, a child was scratched by a coyote , prompting a police warning, and a 16‑year‑old girl, also in Markham , was bitten while walking near her home, leading to a joint investigation by police and animal services. Police officers were called to a public field near a forested area at Coronation Road and Rossland Road on June 22, where the young child was attacked while accompanied by his parents. Durham police say they have notified Animal Services and Public Health, both of which are now involved in assessing the incident and monitoring wildlife activity in the area.

Man accused in Toronto gold heist gets 13 years in U.S. prison for gun running
Durante King-Mclean, a 27-year-old man linked to a gold heist at Toronto's Pearson airport, has been sentenced to 13 years in a U.S. federal prison for attempting to smuggle 65 handguns into Canada. He was arrested by Pennsylvania state police in September 2023 while traveling north, and he pleaded guilty to conspiring to traffic firearms. King-Mclean is also accused of being the getaway driver in the April 2023 heist, which involved the theft of 400 kilograms of gold and $2.5 million in foreign currency.

Double homicide suspect spotted near High Park, Peel Regional Police warn
A man from Mississauga, Jordan Sangwin, is wanted for the double homicide of his parents, aged 70 and 71, who were found with life-threatening injuries on June 18. Peel Regional Police issued a warning after he was spotted near High Park in Toronto on June 24. Sangwin is considered armed and dangerous and is currently believed to be traveling on foot.
