Assam floods: Death toll reaches 75, MLAs to donate a month’s salary for flood relief
| Photo Credit: PTI A day after inviting criticism for his “insensitive” social media post enjoying a meal with some MLAs at the Assam Assembly canteen, Speaker Ranjeet Kumar Dass on Tuesday (July 28, 2026) announced that he and Deputy Speaker Habbey Teron would donate a month’s salary toward relief and rehabilitation of the flood-affected people in the State. “Thank you, government of India, government of Assam, Indian armed forces, paramilitary forces, NDRF, SDRF and all government agencies for acting so fast in rescue operations during flood in Assam,” a Sivasagar town resident, the first.

Kabini dam: Fresh flood alert issued as rains intensify in Kerala
The outflow from the dam was 7,000 cusecs on Friday morning while the inflow was 11,217 cusecs. As the inflow into the dam went up, owing to a fresh spell of rains in Wayanad and nearby areas in the neighbouring State, about 10,000 to 15,000 cusecs of water were being discharged into the river, prompting the issue of a renewed flood warning. Kote, in a flood warning note on Friday, said there is a possibility of further increase in the outflow from the dam considering the dam’s safety, following significant increase in the inflow into the dam.
